چکیده

Cleaning is one of the most important, essential, and delicate operation which has to be handled by conservators before applying new materials any substrates. In past decades, nanotechnology introduced concepts in conservation field, have been providing many advantageous performances, especially higher than older materials. As a result, already started use nanomaterials cleaning processes artifacts. Taking into consideration this approach, our study focused on using nano-structured emulsions (NSE) as smart for removing polymer coatings (e.g., acrylic polymers). For purpose, Paraloid B-72 was applied three different substrates (glass, Lecce stone, Arenaria stone) performed specific emulsion based an eco-friendly surfactant (EcoSurf) two organic solvents proportions. order better understand interaction with coating, plain EcoSurf water also used comparison. study, decay process considered deeply studied, because it directly affects effectiveness. Coated specimens were artificially aged examined techniques: chromatic variations contact angle measurements, optical microscopy, FTIR, SEM-EDS. This material characterization important colour, morphology, micro-structural difference, changes hydrophobic behaviour well chemical composition due ageing processes. After that, coated both unaged cleaned NSE according direct-contact procedure cellulose pulp method. Preliminary analyses suggested that nano-emulsion (i.e., NSE) induced complete removal polymer, despite method not recommended artifacts can hardly applicable real cases. On other hand, experimental results showed satisfactory stone obtained NSE/the system.

Nanostructured fluids from degradable nonionic surfactants for the cleaning of works of art from polymer contaminants.

Nanostructured fluids containing anionic surfactants are among the best performing systems for the cleaning of works of art. Though efficient, their application may result in the formation of a precipitate, due to the combination with divalent cations that might leach out from the artifact. We propose here two new aqueous formulations based on nonionic surfactants, which are non-toxic, readily ...

Porous polymer coatings as substrates for the formation of high-fidelity micropatterns by quill-like pens

We explored the potentials of microarray printing using quill-like microcantilevers onto solid supports that are typically used in microspot printing, including paper, polymeric nitrocellulose and nylon membranes. We compared these membranes with a novel porous poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) support (HEMA) with narrow pore size distribution in the 150 nm range, whi...

Phospholipid membranes as substrates for polymer adsorption.

A largely unsolved problem in soft materials is how surface reconstruction competes with the rate of adsorption. Here, supported phospholipid bilayers of DMPC (1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) were employed as substrates for the adsorption of a weak polyelectrolyte, polymethacrylic acid, whose time-dependent ratio of charged to uncharged functional groups served to probe the local d...

SPME as a Tool for Probing Solute Release Mechanisms from Emulsions and Nanostructured Liquids

A solid-phase microextraction (SPME) procedure was evaluated for its application in measuring solute release in the headspace (HS) and in the liquid phase (DI) from emulsified and nanostructured materials. Limonene, a hydrophobic flavor compound present in many foods and beverages, was used as a model solute for evaluating the SPME method. Sampling conditions, including SPME fiber type, samplin...

Nanostructured plasmonic substrates for use as SERS sensors

Plasmonic nanostructures strongly localize electric fields on their surfaces via the collective oscillations of conducting electrons under stimulation by incident light at a certain wavelength. Molecules adsorbed onto the surfaces of plasmonic structures experience a strongly enhanced electric field due to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), which amplifies the Raman scattering sign...
